Chapters provides functionality to create new ePub documents and to open existing ePub files for editing purposes.
The ePub format is the most broadly adopted standard for electronic books. ePub files support content reflow, ensuring comfortable reading experience across devices—from smartphones to desktop computers. Each ePub document encapsulates its content within a single compressed file, enhancing portability. This open, vendor-neutral format is based on widely used web standards such as HTML and CSS.
Features of Chapters include:
- Opening existing files and creating new ePub documents
- Viewing entire documents with a vertical scroll interface
- Pinch-to-zoom and smart zoom via double-tap gestures
- Editing and formatting text within documents
- Saving modifications directly back to the original files
- Navigation using the Table of Contents (currently supported on Mac)
- Printing and exporting documents as PDF files (currently supported on Mac)
- Adding cover images and editing metadata (currently supported on Mac)
Chapters also offers additional support features:
- Integration with iCloud Drive for seamless synchronization across devices
- Automatic background autosaving during editing sessions
- Unlimited undo and redo capabilities to manage changes effectively
- Reviewing and restoring previous modifications
- Resuming work where it was left off after launching the app
- Full-screen split view multitasking alongside other applications on Mac and iPad
- Sharing documents easily through Messages, Mail, and AirDrop
